CAR BADGE HISTORY including ORIGINAL COMPETITION SUBMISSIONS
Anyone with any information or corrections please email me (dparsell@ozemail.com.au) .
In the late 1950's it was suggested that the club should have a suitable badge commissioned to associate members cars with the ACCV.
A competition was held and a number of suggestions for a suitable badge where put forward. (See below), I have no idea if the photo order is significant, it is how the drawings I found where numbered.
Eventually the suggestions where thinned down to three (see attached, Alvic March 1960 ) and then a final vote decided that tthe badge that currently adorns many of our cars was chosen (above left).
It didn't end there though. From what I have discovered, the original batch was green and gold, I have seen one this cobination, but for some reason the colouring was soon changed to the familiar red and blue.
The original batch (and probably many others) where commissioned through K.G. Luke, North Fitzroy in late 1960 (See attached) with an intial die cost of 30 pounds and 25 badges costing 1 pound each (plus 16.66% sales tax).
The club still has the original die although it has not been used for many years due to changes in technology. This Die is solid steel and weighs about 3Kg.
